A La Bouffe - Fine French Dining

Let me open this post by saying that this was one truly wonderful dining experience. I went out to celebrate my first official day as a doctor with my bf and it was so nice to be greeted by such hospitable staff, a really beautiful restaurant, a relaxed atmosphere and really amazing food!

Our waitress Sanaa was very charismatic and friendly (she is also French-Moroccan) with a really great French accent. I noticed that all the staff seemed to speak French, which was really wonderful. The decor was also really lovely, with chandeliers, tasteful designs and a setup which was spacious and gave you room to enjoy your meal without your personal space being invaded.

We started off with some bread, butter and a wine recommended to me by the lovely Sanaa. It was a wonderful 2008 Maverick Shiraz from South Australia. It was honestly one of the best Reds I have tried, and was so pleased we ordered a bottle to go with our meal!

Sanaa brought us a entree of a seafood bisque while we waited for our ordered entrees of Tripes À La Provençale (Tripes in a tomato, garlic, onion & basil sauce) and Ravioli À La Langouste Et Aux Crevettes (Lobster prawn ravioli with crayfish sauce). Both were wonderful. I have never had tripe before, but it was really yummy and tender (not what I was expecting at all!).

For the mains I ordered Canard “A La Bouffe” (½ roasted duck on lemon pepper mash with
an orange, sour cherries Cointreau sauce) and my bf ordered the meat special of the day which was an eye fillet, wrapped in prosciutto and some other wonderful things which I now forget. Either way both were incredible.

For dessert we took the lead from a really cute elderly couple who appear to be regulars, we saw their dessert arrive and I had to try it myself. Crêpes Suzette (Classic flambéed crêpes with orange, Grand Marnier sauce & vanilla ice cream) which as the description suggests is served on fire. AMAZING! Not only was presentation great, it tasted wonderful also!

I highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking to enjoy some French Fine dining! Seriously probably the best in Melbourne!

  2. This place is truly wonderful, isn't it? We blogged about our first visit some time ago, and have revisited twice once. We didn't feature the crepes in our blog post, but we did try them and agree with you, so delicious! Here is our blog on it: http://momoandcoco.wordpress.com/2011/09/08/a-la-bouffe/

Coincidentally, our first visit was to celebrate a similar occasion, though different profession. :) Don't you wish there were more beautiful places like this in Melbourne?

    1. Thanks so much for the comments! Nice to see people are actually reading my ramblings. Momo and Co, I have to say your blog is a much better read (and photography!). Mine is more of a hobby but always puts a smile on my face when I get feedback. And yes I do agree that there need to be more places like A La Bouffe in Melbourne!
