Fiesta Mexican

Located on Toorak rd, just near the South Yarra train station, this little Mexican place I walked by all the time and always wanted to try. I finally went a couple of weeks ago, and was pleasantly surprised by the food. It was nothing fancy, and lacked the trend of Mamasita, but the food was unique in its own way and the drinks were also quite tasty. This restaurant seems to pride itself on all the famous people that have eaten here, notably the Australian open players that seem to pass through. Honestly, I couldn't care less if famous people have eaten here, I don't particularly find them useful judges of how good a restaurant is but nonetheless, this place seems to have made a name for itself and I was intrigued as to what was so special about it.

I ordered the Mango Margarita and my boyfriend got the Ocean Blue Margarita. Mine was definately the better choice of the two, but both were pretty good.

We got Nachos to start, with Guacamole, Chilli con queso and Chilli con carne dips.

I got the Tostada Supreme - a flat corn tortilla layered with beef, onion, lettuce, chilli sauce, cheddar cheese and guacamole topped with another crisp flour tortilla, served with mango salsa. (No frijole). I have to say, the way they made the beef was different to other mexican places, it is more like pounded meat like they make in Botswana, rather than minced meat, it was tender and delicious. Another winner of this dish is the crispy torilla. I have never had a torilla like this, it was great! My only complaint would be the mango salsa had too much coriander.

My boyfriend got the Carne Asada, grilled thinly sliced beef marinated in garlic, lime, cracked green peppercorns and green peas. Served with mango salsa, arroz verde and flour torillas. He thought it was nice.
