Bohemian Bar & Restaurant, South Warf

My birthday, like everyone else's, only comes around once a year. Every year I try to find somewhere new and festive to celebrate. This year me and my twin sister were tossing around ideas of where our friends and I should gather, in the end she decided on Bohemian. Good pick Roy.

The Bohemian I have learnt has at it's helm a two-Michelin-star Spanish chef who goes by the name of Josep Espuga, whose has a pretty impressive list of credentials including an array of fancy sounding restaurants in Spain and even degustation in New York. Shmancy. I can see why the menu looks and tastes so good.

The atmosphere was really great. We thankfully got a booth, which I always love. They had a projector playing an old movie on the walls and on cloth hanging from the ceiling which I thought was a really neat idea. The music was also perfect for the space. The service mostly was pretty great, particularly from Judat (If i remember her name correctly - sorry if it's wrong!), a lovely waitress who shared stories from her childhood when describing the dessert special. She explained the chocolate dessert with olive oil ice cream was inspired by her childhood favorite snack of eating a piece of bread with chocolate and olive oil. She also went out of her way to make sure we had the right tea when we ordered some at the end of the night. Rather cutely, when I asked for white English breakfast tea, she thought I meant white tea which apparently is some type of diet tea, so went searching the bar and asking the staff if they stocked white tea. Apparently where she is from, it is quite popular amongst women. So considerate of her. After all the food I ate, I doubt any tea was going to help in the diet department. :)

Moving onto the menu. Both the drinks and food menu had such a good range of tastes to choose from. I started with from memory was a blood orange margarita. YUMMO! Great way to start the evening.

We also ordered a few tapas to share over sangria and good times. The tapas were amazing, my personal favorite probably being the quail. Great presentation too.

Grilled octopus, potato & smoked paprika

Fried whitebait with aioli

Quail Thigh Lollipops
Potato cylinders, spiced tomato, aioli
The sangria was really great, it wasn't watered down like lots of places, you could really feel the warmth of the alcohol in it (but perhaps not as strong as my own personal recipe.. haha), it was really great.

The next course was of course 2 different types of Paella, crunchy on the bottom the way it should be. Deliciousness in a pan, or in our case 2 pans. We chose the chicken & chorizo, and the seafood.

Seafood Paella
Next was dessert, which obviously the clear winner was the chocolate covered salty balls. We loved them so much we ordered more to go with our "white" teas.

Chocolate filled doughnut balls, sweet chilli cumquat
The dessert special which was inspired by Judat was also very delectable. I really enjoyed the combination of flavours.

Overall the bill came to a reasonable price and we had a really enjoyable evening. I would recommend this place for pretty much any occasion - dinner, drinks, lunch and sangria in the sun. They have bocadillos which I am looking forward to trying! Will definitely be back here.
