If you like meat, then this one is for you. Meat Market at South Wharf is a meat lovers heaven. Not only is it a wonderful place to eat because the food is great, but it's also a great place to hang out for drinks and well, it's entertaining, particularly if you are sitting at the grill watching to food being prepared. The head chef is one funny guy, a Kiwi, who reminds me of a cross between Jamie Oliver with his rustic and hands on approach to cooking, but who looks and well, swears, more like Gordon Ramsey. It sure makes for great entertainment. We watched as he prepared each dish and coordinated the various other people around the kitchen.
We started off with an entree of the roast of the day (pork) in a roll with sliced apple and crackling, covered in the roast juices. YUM.
We then also had the bone marrow, which was cooked in the oven in a pan filled to the brim with salt. We then carved out the bone marrow and ate it on sour dough with smoked salt. OH MY GOD. So amazing, but incredibly rich! I think my arteries are artherosclerosing just thinking about it.

After all of that we still had the mains to come. Of course we ordered steak, of which there is a large variety of various dry aged and grain fed etc etc. I can't remember which one I got, but from memory it was a dry aged Scotch fillet, which by the way was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. I also got a side salad with a simple but delicious balsamic dressing to make up for the fact that I had consumed so much meat and no vegetables. Of course my counterpart got home cut fries (which I ate half of! Delicious!)

Seriously, if you do eat here, try and sit by the grill, it is much more entertaining. Otherwise if it's a nice sunny day for lunch or drinks, sit outside by the river. Spoilt for choice.
