Absolutely everyone I know tells me that the best burgers in Melbourne are at Huxtaburger. So I thought I should check it out. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for listening to my friends for advice, but I'm very skeptical about people calling anything 'the best' when there is a bandwagon involved. Just because something is popular doesn't make it the best. I often find places hidden away that are unknown, yet the food and service is much better than those that are popular.
So what did I think of Huxtaburger?
Large line out the door. 30 minute wait for a burger and fries to be made. Not happy Jan.
Menu options - limited.
Price - Affordable.
Burger quality - I guess this is where it counts the most. It was a nice burger. They clearly go to a lot of effort to make it look like a simple burger, but you can tell that even the way they prepare the bun takes effort to get it just right. Even the way they make sure the cheese is melted onto the meat. 'A' for effort. It didn't go unnoticed.
Would I call it the best burger in Melbourne? Nope. I've had better. I still think Drugstore is the best burger I have tried to this point in time. If you have any suggestions of places you think can rival this I am open to suggestion. Even the fries at Drugstore are better. I should really stop comparing.
If you are in the area and can be bothered waiting, the burgers at Huxtaburger are pretty good. Just how I imagine a straightforward classic American diner burger should be made.I guess this is why it's so popular. The serving size was rather small though and my boyfriend left hungry.
If you are up for a drink, there is a hidden away little bar on the premise also ("Bills bar"). That's a nice touch. At least you can drink while waiting for your food.
